Some of the worlds most desirable acoustics guitars were made with pickguards (Acetate based cellulose plastic) that shrink over time. These pick guards were glued to the top and many were lacquered over. Sometimes the glue gives way and the pick guard lifts damaging the finish. Even worse is when the glue holds tight as the pick guard shrinks. In this case, something has to give and it is often the top wood itself.
When possible we will will salvage the original pick guard. By reattaching it correctly, we can prevent further damage, but there are times we will need to make a new pick guard from scratch. Before this, any cracks or damage will be dealt with and as well as finish repair.
